Battle of the Beltway Recap

Hey all!

I know it's been too long. Lately I've been a bit preoccupied. Trust me I'll get to the reason why soon enough. For now I'm going to get you caught up on some other news.

A couple weeks ago I went to see the Battle of the Beltway B-ball game with my best friend Jessica. We had a blast! It was so much fun watching football players play a different sport. You could tell they were enjoying themselves and just being free spirited about it. Well most of them anyway. :-P

There were no assigned seats so Jess and I found a spot we thought looked good. Turns out we were sitting right behind the Ravens team. Redskins were on the sidelines to the left of us. Oops!
During halftime we totally switched sides. It was nice cause then we were always on the side the Redskins were scoring on. I thought it worked out fairly well.
The only thing that we were disappointed about was that we didn't get any of the free stuff the players were throwing to the crowd.
We didn't really want the Ravens stuff but I would have taken it anyway. A lot of the players were signing mini footballs and launching them into the stands. It was awesome!

Of course neither Jess nor myself got anything but the experience was cool. By the time we moved over to the other side all the players had stopped throwing merchandise. Stink! So we didn't even have a chance to gain some Redskins stuff. (Which would have been the highlight of like everything for me!) Oh well! Next year I'll know better.

Bit blurry, sorry. Kirk Cousins played (He's the white guy) lol
On to the game. It was actually pretty good. I wasn't sure if it would be like a complete goofy mess or if they'd be like all stars on the court too. I'd say they fell somewhere in the middle. There were some pretty hilarious moments. Not to mention the announcers made it fun by throwing out some football terminology during fouls and whatnot. (ie. "Well that was a delay of game." "Roughing the passer on that one".) I enjoyed it for sure!

Blurry again, sorry. Action shot!
The entire time the score was close. Going back and forth for the lead. It got really intense and the most exciting in the last three minutes. The teams were neck and neck at that point. Jess and I were on the edge of our seats yell and cheering on the Redskins! They kept taking the ball to each basket rebounding and back down the court again. This happened a few times. Finally, the clock ran out leaving the game tied. (Whaaaat!!!)

Halftime Score
For a bit we weren't sure if they were going to end in a tie, since it was just for charity, or go in to overtime. We hoped and prayed (fairly quickly) for it to continue into overtime. A few moments passed and they announced we'd have a 2 minute overtime.
The next 2 minute or the most epic and loud minutes of the game. The ball was just flying back and forth down the court. Shooting for baskets, getting the rebound, shooting again, then down to the other end of the court for the same thing.
With seconds left on the clock and the crowd going crazy (Mainly me and Jess :-P) the Ravens had the ball. They took it down the court for a shot. Around the rim it went. Ravens got the rebound. Missed again. And in the last moments they got the rebound and finally sunk the ball for the lead and the win!

Final score: Ravens 63 - Redskins 61
I was sad to see me Redskins lose but was more then ok in the end because it was such an amazing, fun, and exciting game. And might I add, well played! (For football players) ;-)
I will no doubt be going back and making it a yearly thing. As long as they continue to have it of course.

This is an event I would HIGHLY suggest going to, no matter who you cheer for.
Over all a great experience. There should definitely be more things like this. Keeps the fans entertained and lively.

Till next time,

~Tiff
